Attention aspiring poets: Kent District Library is hosting the Write Michigan Teen Poetry Contest!

This year features two chances to win prizes. Submit up to two poems for a chance to win a $50 Meijer gift card. Then, read one of your poems at our 5th Annual Write Michigan Teen Poetry Slam for another chance to win! You must submit a written work to be eligible for the teen poetry slam.

This programming is provided through the generous donations of community donors.

Contest is open to Kent County, Mich., residents in grades 6-12.

Submission deadline: 5 PM April 6, 2020

Guidelines 

  • Contest is open to Kent County residents in grades 6-12.
  • Poems must be submitted between Feb. 1, 2020 and April 6, 2020 online only.
  • A maximum of two poems can be submitted.
  • Submitting a poem automatically makes you eligible to participate in the teen poetry slam.
  • All poems must be your own original work.
  • Submissions become the property of Kent District Library and will not be returned. Please be sure to make a copy for yourself.
  • Winning entries will appear on the KDL website's Teen Page. KDL reserves the right to correct minor spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Twenty winners (10 in the juried contest and 10 in the teen poetry slam) will each receive a $50 Meijer gift card. 
  • Winners will be announced at the Write Michigan Teen Poetry Slam.
